The Hastings streetscape was originally completed by MCSA in 1992. Thirty years later, MCSA returned to upgrade the entire streetscape with new lights, paving, midblock crossings with bistro seating and lighting, planter pots and trees. The emphasis for this streetscape was creating human spaces and slowing down traffic to make the downtown more walkable. Additionally, half the trees were replaced with planters to add additional seasonal interest and reduce long-term maintenance.

Midblock crossings allow visitors to site and enjoy their refreshments and watch the world go by. The City of Hastings is one of 13 cities in Michigan and Ohio that participate in the Midwest Sculpture Initiative Program, https://www.msisculpture.com/. Many sculptures from Midwest artists are rotated annually and some are purchased or donated to become permanent fixtures on the streetscape.

For this project, MCSA Group provided all master planning, design development, construction documents, bidding and construction phase administration.
